Bible verse comparison and Paper
Justin, those are both great points. After I decided to talk about the issue of blame I got a bit of tunnel vision, so thanks for pointing out those differences! Interestingly, the NIV–which in my paper turned out to be the less-feminist of the two–turned out to be the one that says “put” instead of “give.” So, it’s not quite so cut and dry!
It’s interesting that “shame” is in verse 7 of the NLT, but not at all in the parallel verse in the NIV. And I find it also interesting that in the NLT, the woman was “given” to Adam unlike in the other translation where she was “put” with Adam. Using the word “give” makes it sound like Eve is Adam’s property, or at least that is how I read it.
After reading your paper, I think I’ll have you read/proof every paper I have to write from now on. Deal? :)
